Raekwon, born Corey Woods on January 12, 1970, in Staten Island, New York, is best known as one of the most influential members of the Wu-Tang Clan. Known as “The Chef,” Raekwon earned his nickname because of his lyrical ability to craft vivid, cinematic stories about street life, often using food and cooking metaphors as a storytelling device. He joined the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s, contributing to the group’s signature sound with his unique voice, intricate rhymes, and cinematic approach to storytelling.
Raekwon’s solo career quickly became a defining part of hip-hop history. His debut album, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” (1995), produced by RZA, is widely considered a classic, pioneering the mafioso rap style that influenced countless artists.
