Inspectah Deck

About Inspectah Deck:

The Sharp Lyricist of the Clan

Jason Hunter, better known as Inspectah Deck, is the Wu-Tang Clan’s lyrical marksman — precise, thoughtful, and consistently one of the group’s most underrated MCs. Born and raised in Staten Island, Deck developed a smooth yet razor-sharp delivery that cut through every beat he touched. His calm intensity and ability to paint vivid images made him a key architect of Wu-Tang’s lyrical identity.

Inspectah Deck first gained widespread attention on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), opening songs like “Protect Ya Neck” and “C.R.E.A.M.” with some of the most memorable verses in hip-hop history. His bars were intelligent and calculated, setting the tone before his brothers unleashed their chaos. Fans and critics alike often praise him as one of the Clan’s most technically skilled lyricists — the quiet powerhouse behind some of their sharpest moments.

Outside the group, Deck built a solid solo career with albums like Uncontrolled Substance (1999), Manifesto (2010), and Chamber No. 9 (2019). He’s also part of the underground supergroup Czarface, alongside 7L & Esoteric, blending classic boom-bap beats with comic book-inspired storytelling. The Czarface projects have earned cult status among hip-hop purists, proving Deck’s creativity continues to evolve decades after Wu-Tang’s debut.

Though he may not always seek the spotlight, Inspectah Deck remains one of Wu-Tang’s sharpest minds and purest lyricists — the embodiment of precision, intellect, and respect for the craft. Every time he steps to the mic, he reminds fans why Wu-Tang’s foundation was built on both grit and genius.
